Reading-based recruitment agency achieves Scope 1 & 2 emissions elimination target
DiSRUPT Recruitment Agency – a leading UK property and PBSA recruitment agencies - is thrilled to announce that we’ve achieved our 5th consecutive year of Planet Mark Business Certification, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
How We Achieved 2024 Planet Mark Certification
Over the past year, DiSRUPT has successfully reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100%, both in absolute terms and per employee. These impressive reductions reflect our commitment to minimising our environmental impact, with a special focus on homeworking, which replaced all in-office work. As a result, all fuel and energy emissions are now categorised under Scope 3.
This achievement is a testament to our dedication to improving our carbon data quality, which received a perfect 20 out of 20 score for both Scope 1 & 2 and Scope 3.
Our total carbon footprint for the year stood at 12.2 tonnes of CO2e (market base)—with 1.2 tonnes of CO2e per employee. This is an increase on our overall footprint (market base) of 8.8 tCO2e, with a per employee rate of 1.2 tCO2e in 2023.
We were able to earn certification this year by eliminating our Scope 1 & 2 footprints and submitting our new plans to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 5% per year under our updated business model.
Our Journey to Re-Certification
Planet Mark Certification is a trusted mark of sustainability excellence, recognising businesses that make real progress in reducing their environmental impact. For DiSRUPT, this journey has been an integral part of how we operate since we decided to transform our organisation into a Business For Good during the pandemic.
This year’s certification demonstrates the strides we’ve made in reducing emissions while improving the quality of our environmental data.
Next Steps on our Sustainability Journey
As part of our Planet Mark certification, we’re continuously setting ambitious targets for reducing our emissions even further. Our next target is to achieve a 5% reduction in emissions for the upcoming year, which we are confident we can meet through improved practices, new technologies, and a collective commitment from our team.
One of the key areas for growth is expanding our reporting boundaries. Currently, our measured emissions are focused on homeworking, business travel, and employee commuting. However, to progress toward net zero, we plan to include additional Scope 3 categories such as Purchased Goods & Services and Capital Goods within the next three years.
Planet Mark's framework encourages us to examine all aspects of our business operations, ensuring we remain accountable not only for the emissions we directly control but also for those we influence throughout our supply chain. This is a crucial step for any business working towards long-term sustainability.
Why Planet Mark Certification Matters
Planet Mark Business Certification is a tangible step toward reducing the global carbon footprint and combating climate change. By measuring and transparently reporting our emissions, DiSRUPT is doing its part to protect the planet and lead by example in the recruitment and talent management sector.
A Commitment to the Future
As we celebrate this 5th year of certification, we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainable practices and continuous improvement. Our work doesn’t end here. We understand that Scope 3 emissions, which currently account for 100% of our carbon footprint, hold the key to deeper reductions.
While we’re proud of the progress made, we acknowledge the road ahead requires an even broader focus on reducing emissions across all business activities.
We are engaging with new partnerships which can help offset and reduce our carbon footprint. Engaging Carbon audit organisations will help us with our Scope 3 goals.
DiSRUPT’s impact on the UN SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a collection of 17 interrelated goals set by the United Nations. They cover a broad range of social and economic development issues. These include poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender, equality, water, sanitation, energy.
By recertifying with Planet Mark this year, we have made 14 alignments over 7 of the 14 UN SDGs with multiple impacts on Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
